Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

This is by far the friendliest Italian restaurant I've ever been to! The food is delicious as well. My mom and I went for lunch. We started with a bottle of wine, of course, along with the portabello mushroom appetizer which was very flavorful and to die for! We ordered 2 entrees and decided to split them both so we could both have different tastes. We got the lobster ravioli which gaff a delicious shrimp sauce with little pieces of shrimp in it, and the chicken ortalano which included artichokes and asparagus with a light lemon cream sauce. Delicious. I highly recommend both entrees. Aside from the great food was the great owner who kept checking on us and even sang and danced as he delivered us fresh watermelon for dessert. He sat with us and talked with us for awhile. He was very friendly and professional! Ill definitely be back!

We had a wonderful experience here Saturday night with a group of 5 for a birthday dinner. The baked clams and lobster ravioli were amazing along with excellent service. The owner came out of the kitchen to say hello to each table and check that they were satisfied. Cappuccinos and tiramisu along with the lightly fried cookies in powdered sugar were an excellent way to top off the night. We will be coming back here again soon!

I wouldn't be surprised if I see this place on Restaurant Impossible at some point in time. Wouldn't know what the food tastes like, because we walked out of the place when we saw that the prices were up to $7 more on the dine-in menu, than the menu on the website. The menu online was apparently only for take out, but doesn't specify that at all, nor is there an alternate "dine-in" menu on the website. When we brought it up to the host, she didn't seem phased by the issue or the fact that we were leaving, so we didn't bother to stay. Reservation system was a hand-written list on a scrap sheet of paper and there was really nowhere to wait for a table. Waitstaff was running around and after 5 minutes sitting at our table, nobody had said a word to us... overall seemed rather disorganized. If the front of the house is disorganized, can't imagine what goes on in the back. If you have patience, maybe check the place out - food might be decent (but likely not worth the ridiculous upcharge for "dine-in"). If not... probably a good idea to stay away from this one. Also, I guess a word to whoever makes or types the menus... it's Chicken Piccata, not Chicken "Picante"... unless you're using Pace in an Italian dish.

We were there on a Saturday night. We asked for Caesar salads, and we received a bland house salad with ranch dressing, with the cucumbers tasting a bit fishy. My husband loved his steak, although expected more for the price. I ordered chicken marsala, which was not appetizing. The sauce was heavy and gravy-like with very few mushrooms. The chicken was almost a mushy consistency and tasted like it had been frozen and not fresh. For the quality of food, the prices seemed to be on the high side. We will not be returning.

The night was fabulous! The food was amazing! If you're looking for authentic Italian food with a warm friendly family atmosphere this is the place. The chef came out Pasquale is so friendly makes you feel like home. The food was so fresh. This restaurant is absolutely my # 1 choice!!!!!! Great food!!!!

Outstanding as usual, great grigliata great chicken parm. And great veal Marsala, the hostess (owner) is amazing and the service is also prompt and courteous. Desert and coffee on the house are the cherry on top. Still a great place only negative, portions have gotten a lot smaller but hey it's still plenty and the cannoli was to die for, fantastic

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. My first experience was great, my second time was not. The first time I came at around 5:45pm for dinner on a Tuesday with a friend who recommended it. Everything from the service to the food was excellent. The waitress was super friendly and we were seated right away. We ordered the grilled seafood appetizer (grigliata) and I ordered the fra diavolo with minestrone soup on the side. The bread that comes with the meal was roasty toasty, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. The minestrone soup was flavor and the vegetables were nice and mushy. The grilled seafood appetizer was superb. If I had to order one dish at this restaurant, this would be it. The pasta actually had a bite and was spicy, which I was surprised by because I have a high tolerance for spicy food. The only complaint I had about the food was that the shrimp was overcooked and tough. The restaurant is also a bit pricey. During our visit, Italian families started piling in so I thought it must have been authentic Italian food. The second time I came back for lunch with friends. I could smell the grilled seafood from the parking lot. It was actually pretty busy. The waitress let us choose our seats. We ordered the grigliata, the gnocchi with marinara, the eggplant parm, and the lobster ravioli. Lunch was slightly less expensive than dinner. Again the grilled seafood was wonderful. It was seasoned well, the portions were generous, and it tasted like it had come straight off the barbecue. Everything else was just meh. With my side salad, I ordered garlic dressing. It was overdressed and kind of sour. I wasn't a fan. I've made eggplant parm before so I know how time consuming and labor intensive it is. The one at the restaurant was just ok. A little on the mushy side and not flavorful. The lobster ravioli was very sweet and the filling kind of reminded me of a crab rangoon. The gnocchi was bland. I noticed the owner making rounds at all the tables but he did not stop by our table. I don't know if it was because he knew the people at the other tables or if it was because we were not Italian. This kind of upset me. I know he saw us. He just didn't take the time to say hi. The bathroom was not wheelchair accessible. A wheelchair cannot fit in it. It's also a bit hard to maneuver around because the restaurant is small and the tables are close together. Luckily we sat at a table right by the door. I would definitely go back for grigliata but I'm not so sure about the other dishes.

This is our third takeout visit. Eggplant Parmesan and Meat Lasagna have been very good each time. Cannellonis are great. The veal mushroom dish was disappointing. Very good service, but very cramped space. If you can get there on a weekday you'll be less crowded. I recommend the takeout and that you experiment. You will likely discover something you like and call on as a reliable choice....those are not so common around any neighborhood.
(3)Sue T.
A mom and pop storefront place in an ugly small strip mall. The décor is tired and the service friendly but perfunctory. The lobster ravioli was smothered in way too much sauce. My friend's gnocchi looked better. That said, it is the kind of place where you can chat with friends without feeling rushed--just like at Grandma's house. I wouldn't recommend it for a business lunch though.
(2)Julie P.
This place is amazing!! We were on our way to another Italian restaurant when we got there they were closed. Well....we decided to give Joe & Giuseppe a try after a friend recommended it to us a while ago. It was life changing. The clams were the best I have had in over 25 years. The breading was so tasty and the clams the CLAMS were tender and succulent. Then I had the lobster ravioli and again YUM that vodka sauce will be in my dreams. If I was a prisoner this would be my last meal! My husband had the stuffed gnocchi OMG I will be having that next time. Then hey top off this delicious dinner with a light powder sugar cookie. The service was fantastic and the chef Pasquale came out to talk to his diners. My new favorite place for an amazing Italian dinner.
(5)Pachelbel C.
Favorite Italian restaurant in the area. It is family owned and the size of the restaurant is relatively small but that is why it is comfortable as we can 'talk' (some restaurants are just too noisy to talk and enjoy atmosphere.) Egg plant parmesan is my favorite. Their red sauce is just fantastic. I tried a few times to mimic the sauce at hone but.... Very friendly, cozy place to enjoy dinning experience.

We went to Joe and Guiseppe based on a referral from a friend. Heading into this place, my expectations were way off. I had expected an upscale Italian bistro type of place. That's not what this is. We arrived around 6:00-6:30pm on a Satuday and were surprised that the place was already packed and there was a substantial wait. The good thing was that the place turned over pretty quickly. The folks leaving were older and clearly been there for an early dinner. I suspect that this is typical. What Joe & Guiseppe reminds me of is old, homemade Italian dishes. We had veal Marsala, pasta with mussels and eggplant Parmesan. The veal was quite good with just the right amount of seasoning. At other places I've noticed that Marsala can get overly salty. Not the case here. The mussels were excellent. Large and fresh, they swam in a light tomato sauce with some traditional Italian spices like oregano, basil etc.. The eggplant parm was a bit disappointing. Overly bready and a bit soggy with a tomato sauce that verged on orange versus red in color. So, here's the thing, everything was good. Not exceptional, but solid. The tomato sauce is not the bright red, tangy, "just picked" kind of sauce you will get in more upscale restaurants. And that's actually good too. J&G is really more like what you would have been served when visiting your friend's house and his mom invited you to stay for dinner. So, I've recalibrated my expectations and really do recommend Joe and Guiseppe. Go in expecting home cooked Italian fare that will make you think back to your childhood. Good stuff, we'll be back.

Really DELICIOUS and FRESH Italian food. The restaurant is very small and located in a little strip mall - but it is definitely a little gem to find! We have dined at the restaurant and also ordered to go. We noticed that ordering to go is actually quite a bit cheaper than dining in -- not really sure why that is, since the portions don't seem to be different at all. Either way, the prices aren't bad (but the to-go prices are TRULY a steal, so if you live close and want a good Italian meal at home, Joe and Giuseppe's is a great pick). My favorites are the grilled calamari (SO tender, fresh, and delicious) and the linguine with mussels in red sauce. They are both fantastic dishes. The service is great too -- when we dined in our waitress was extremely helpful and attentive. They bring you a little freshly fried pastry dish dusted with powdered sugar at the end of the meal. I would definitely recommend trying this spot out for a romantic date night (either in the restaurant or bringing it back home).

This has been our favorite local Italian restaurant for a few years so we decided to have them put together our wedding dinner. We rented out the restaurant on a Sunday evening for a dinner of around 50 people It was perfect. The owners had their staff ready to meet all of our needs. The food was excellent, the service to our guests went above and beyond expectations. Near the end,Pasquale (head chef and owner) came out and was entertaining those that remained with stories of his vegetable garden. A great time was had by all,and we thank Pasquale and Margie for their attention to detail, their excellent food, and overall service to us and our guests.

This place... IS A GOOD FIND. Went here with the hubs. We ordered the pizza bread for an appetizer. Hubs ordered a chicken and caper dinner plate and I ordered a seafood amazement with red sauce and linguini... not on the menu BUT they were willing to accommodate me :) The chef came out during our meal and greeted the entire restaurant. He wanted to know how the food was and also cracked some funny jokes. This place is the quinescence of a neighborhood Italian restaurant, and I love it.

Great food and service. Really enjoyed the minestrone and escarole soups. Excellent shrimp scampi. Good atmosphere for Grandkids, who loved the gelato!

Joe & Guiseppes is by far the most authentic Italian restaurant i have ever been to. Pasquale serves it up right the food is awesome and the prices are fantastic. Family atmosphere friendly service. AAAAAAA+++++++++++ in my book

I was a regular customer at Joe & Guiseppe for years but recently not so much. First, don't even think of trying to get a table in this tiny restaurant without a reservation. You will be stuck standing outside or crushed near the front door waiting for a table if you don't have a reservation and on weekends they've actually told us a table was not a possibility. Second, this is not a quiet restaurant. On a recent visit we inquired twice about the incredibly loud banging that never stopped and were told it was the dishwasher. Between the banging dishwasher and your fellow diners in a small space, this is not a restaurant for easy conversation. However the food is consistently good and the service while not attentive is friendly. They will not rush you through your meal and portions are large. There is no bar but glasses of wine are poured generously. Owner Pasquale is often found mingling with his customers and is easy to talk too when he's not in the kitchen. Recommended for take out or for dinner on weeknights after 7:30 pm.

When I walked in, the place felt very welcoming and I already had a great feeling. The workers were very nice and the owner was even more amazing. When we talked to him he was very passionate and proud about his restaurant and he had every reason to be. The four of us (me and three family members) each finished every dish we ordered. The sauce is one of the things we raved most about it. It was the most outstanding sauce we ever tasted. The desserts were just as amazing as the dinner courses. Overall, the food was phenomenal. The place itself was small and cozy, and everyone there was as happy about the food as we were. We could hear them raving to the other workers. This is a must go to place! You won't regret it.

My new favorite Italian restaurant!!! Not a fancy place but the food is authentic and delicious. The red sauce is fabulous and lobster ravioli is wonderful as well. Veal marsala is also excellent. Great lunch specials too! Nice touch too that the owner/Chef makes the rounds and is very personable and welcoming.

i really liked being here! it's located in the middle of a strip mall so it's kind of hard to find. i came here with a friend who is a regular. everyone here was was super nice and it's just a cozy comfortable place to be. the bread is warm and delicious and i loaded up on it and the olive oil and parm on the table. yum. i had the mushroom and peas risotto and it was decent. nothing good or bad about it. but it was reasonably priced and the portion was HUGE. my friend had the eggplant parmesan, which is also huge. if we hadn't stuffed ourselves, those easily could have been three meals (including the salad that came with). they were also super nice about the salad here! i asked what kind of salad it was and our waitress was really nice and asked if there was a part of the leaf i preferred or if i had anything specific that i liked or disliked. i really appreciate how nice that was and the veggies themselves were very fresh. another thing i appreciated was the timing of everything. i didn't feel rushed at all and was not left waiting either. overall, this is just a nice little place!
(4)Maryellen W.
Absolutely the best Italian food I've had in my life! I love this place for so many reasons. It's a small, family owned restaurant with a great atmosphere. The owner and chef, Pasquale, makes it a point to come out and greet every table (and bring fresh baked cookies at the end of every meal). My go-to dish is the Seafood Risotto; I can't even begin to describe how delicious it is! If you haven't gone to this restaurant yet, you absolutely have to. You will love it.
(5)Erin B.
This used to be my absolute favorite restaurant but they have really slid downhill in the last year or two. The specials haven't changed once in the last 3 years and the only two soups that are offered are ALWAYS minestrone and escarole. The service has been dicey the last few times I went, stupid things like running out of bread, and portions have been getting smaller and smaller over the last two years. Well, I went with my friend and husband earlier this week and it will be my last time ever. I'll elaborate... Since, a soup or salad comes with each entree, I ordered the minestrone soup. Something was off because it had a bitter metallic taste. My husband decided on the chicken Parmesan and my friend ordered the clams with linguine in a white wine sauce. I asked the waitress what was better, the stuffed gnocchi or regular. She recommended the stuffed. Well, they brought mine out and I had exactly 15 gnocchi on my plate. My friend noticed right away what a skimpy amount it was. I asked the waitress if they accidentally gave me a half order. NOPE. That was the normal amount. When Pasquale (the owner and head chef) came out from the kitchen and asked how everything was, I mentioned this. He told me "you should have told the waitress", when I said "I did on fact tell her". His response: "well.... (Long pause) ...stuffed gnocchi is more expensive." Oh really!? I spent 16.95 on this order that has no meat based or seafood in it and you are telling me it's to expensive? Well, I value my money and not being cheated and if you as a restaurant owner are going to try to pull my leg like that, then I am no longer a customer. I am DONE. My husbands parm chicken was soggy and tasted of old oil and my friend's seafood pasta had a small lake of watery white wine sauce in the bottom of her bowl. When I want Italian food from now on, I'll be bringing my business to Toscana Restaurant. Goodbye Joe & Giuseppe restaurant forever!

The eggplant pram was mushy. The sauce thin and unseasoned. Will not eat in or take out again.

We came here for our first date in 2014 because one of my co workers recommended this place, so we decided to try it. It was a pleasant experience. But for the 2nd experience...not so much. I came here for dinner with my boyfriend and we got greeted at the door and sat down at our table. No one came to ask us if we wanted drinks or anything,my boyfriend had to ask a waitress to get him something to drink. Then we waited for OVER 20 MINUTES and NO ONE came to serve us. I had to get up and tell the host that we haven't even ordered our food yet. She apologized and got someone to serve us and then mentioned that we would get free desert. Now the waiter that served us walked by our table a handful of times and ALWAYS turned her head..then had the nerve to say that she "didn't" know that we were her table! Ha! Now, my boyfriend is African American and I have NEVER EVER HAD SUCH BAD SERVICE IN MY LIFE. It shouldn't matter the skin tone of someone, we came to YOUR restaurant to eat and YOU should serve us. I have never ever experienced such a thing..to wait and have a bunch of waiters walk by our table. I am completely disgusted and will never consider coming back to this place nor will I ever recommend this place! This wasn't our first time and will definitely be our last! And the food is okay, not amazing like most reviews say.
(1)Natalie C.
This is by far the best italian restaurant I have ever been to. This is home cooked italian food at its best in a small, family owned restaurant. The owner often comes out to great people and his wife, the hostess is incredibly kind and welcoming. Personal favorites: BAKED CLAMS. best i've ever tasted, and I order baked clams everywhere I go. Lobster ravioli: simply incredible. The vodka & shrimp sauce is very sweet and tangy. Chicken and eggplant parmagiana are great too. I could easily eat an entire meal of dozens of baked clams. All in all, amazing food in a cozy and friendly environment.
(5)Mark V.
Love this place agree the best Calms ever had. Baked or with pasta all are Great . The owners are wonderful and make you feel at home . A Super find I have eaten here over 20 time and continue to go back and bring friends and most have loved it as much as me.
(4)Ann H.
Really good traditional Italian food. Mussels linguine - more than 21 mussels, I lost count. Veal portofino, great and genererous. Seafood risotto - ample, filling and delish. We also had an appetizer, Grigliata - awesome. Grilled shrimp, octopus, calamari, eggplant and zucchini. You get soup or salad with your entree, small side of pasta witht the veal. Complimentary portion of beignets after dinner.Needless to say, we brought half our dinner home. Come early or make a reservation, it gets crowded quickly on a Saturday evening and it is not a large place. Definitely good value and nice dinner for the money.
(5)John W.
stopped in for lunch with 4 business associates around 12:30. Took the waitress 10mins to greet us (not even with a smile) and she basically through us the menus. Then another 10mins went by nothing, no contact, no drink order nothing. Ended up getting up an walking out. Hopefully the owner is reading this. You just lost probably a $150 tab by your awful service. Really need to improve this because your food is good.
(2)Mariana H.
Great bread, Lobster ravioli, clams with white sauce and angel hair! Ok service. Gross spinach soup. I would go back, it's so cute and they are good at birthdays.
(3)Ryan H.
Best Veal Parmesan I have ever had. We went last night with the in-laws and everyone just loved their food. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very friendly.
(5)Amy H.
This is a wonderful family restaurant. Pasquale is the best. He walks around and greets the diners. His flare for story telling and cooking wonderful food just makes this place the best. This was my grandpa's favorite restaurant. He would go 2-3 times a week and that says a lot when a Sicilian chooses a favorite. It's the best!
(5)John L.
I like this place. I give it 3.5. It is located in a sort of a weird location but no biggie. The food is authentic and service was good. The owner is an interesting person to know. When he's not in the kitchen working, he's out on the floor socializing with customers. Plenty to eat and then some to take home. Many regulars come here to eat so reservations are recommended. I've been here a few times and will be back. I always leave thinking I wish I owned a place like this.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of celebrating my Aunt/Uncle's 50th wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful event and one of the most glorious parts was the delightful smell that came through the house when the catering order arrived. Lasagna, spaghetti, meatballs, all kinds of delights! The smells and tastes reminded me of the homes of friends/family with Italian moms instantly bringing me back to my childhood. Flash forward to yesterday. My cousin and I decided to go to dinner. I just had to check out the restaurant. What a great place! We got there around 8pm on a Thursday so it was not too crowded. We were immediately sat down and brought water and menus. The waitress informed us that some fresh baked bread would be out shortly. Oh boy, this was going to be great! The place is small and charming. It seemed like the kind of place where everyone kind of new each other. Also, someone Pasquale (owner/chef) knew was on the XFactor, America's Got Talent or one of those kind of shows so everyone was drawn to the TV which made the evening more interesting. We enjoyed many delights... Fresh baked bread (complementary with our meal) Bruschetta Minestrone soup Cheese ravioli with bolognese Cheese ravioli with spicy marinara Meatballs Cookies with powdered sugar (complementary with our meal) Hazelnut gelato Tiramisu Cannoli I know this seems a little excessive for two people but, I really wanted to try all the delights. We really chowed down and took home lots of leftovers. Already ate them for breakfast! If I wanted to save money I would skip appetizer, dessert and the side of meatballs and would still have a full meal. That being said with all we ate and one glass of wine our bill was $62.02 which I thought was very reasonable. This did not include the Hazelnut gelato which Pasquale gave to us complementary as he knew my cousin. Before we left he said a very friendly good bye and I could not help but, give him a hug for such a wonderful dinner. I can't wait to go back with my husband for date night. BTW-if you have kids who are picky eaters like mine, they do not offer a kids menu. My kids are super picky but, I probably still could take them here and have them fill up on bread and dessert. They would just rather go to a place that offers chicken fingers. Those silly boys.
(5)David N.
Cans down one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to in the five years I have been in Chicagoland. The atmosphere is intimate with a total of 17 tables. And the owner, let me tell you... His name is Pasquale and his cooking is as brilliant as his personality. Making it a point to visit every table and have a lively conversation, his style is as old world as his food. At the end of the day, there are places that you will go where the food is good, and then there are places where you go that you will remember for a long time... Joe and Giuseppe will give you the unique combination of having both :-)
(5)Jenny R.
The food here is good...some dishes are really good like the calamari/octopus/shrimp app and the lobster ravioli. But the service is beyond bad...so bad I don't think we'd go back, which is a shame since it's so close. I've been there 3 or 4 times over the last 2 years and I've yet to have a good experience with a waitress. On my most recent visit we had some bread and had our water glass refilled before I had to ask someone if we had a waitress. If I want my dining experience to last 2 hours I want to do it on my own accord, not because it took the waitress 20 minutes to bring us the check (and 20 more minutes to run the credit card...) I feel bad giving a 2 star review to a neighborhood restaurant but terrible service is too hard to overlook.
(2)Anthony C.
AuthenticAuthenticAuthentic. Sicilian. They make homemade pasta noodles in the kitchen. I love this place. food seems a bit pricey, until it comes to the table and its on a 14" dinner plate and you realize you cannot eat that much food! owner is very friendly and like to talk to people who are interested. he also has a habit of passing out random things to the guests, such as slices of watermelon, or deserts. after the meal, you get a complimentary portion of beignets (powdered sugar dusted, fried batter, like funnel cake). service is usually good, but they are usually very busy. great place for an anniversary. Manga!
(5)B G.
I went here with my family for dinner after we decided to try some place new. The location was kind of odd for a restaurant. It seems to be mixed in with a business district. The inside was cozy. There were a fair amount of people there and it was not too noisy where we sat which was nice. We all came to the conclusion that the food was just ok. It was fresh, but the taste could have been better. I checked the website menu before I went there and it does not seem to match the one we had at the restaurant. The choices are different and the prices are higher. The service was ok. The food did not come out very fast, but that gave us some time to talk. At the end they do give you complimentary fried dough with powdered sugar. Overall it was ok, but I would not rush back.
(2)Marilyn H.
This is our favorite restaurant. We love to take our friends here because they love the home made food. My husband always gets the giambotta (Italian sausage, peppers, onions and potatoes). I love to get the eggplant parmesan. It is always tender and delicious. Sometimes I get the Sicilian appetizer and have that for my meal since it is so big (and still take home half of it). One of our friend's favorite dish is the chicken ortolano. Another friend loves the lasagna. The bruschetta is to die for - though the home-made bread that comes with the meal is great, also. The minestrone soup is so tasty. And the desserts are delicious - though we rarely have room. The owner, Pasquale, comes out when he can to greet people but his tiime is very limited since he is the chef. We had a large anniversary party and had it catered by Joe & Giuseppe. I am SO glad we did. We ordered lasagna, sausage with peppers and meatballs. Everyone raved about it. It was such a highlight of our evening. They do a HUGE take-out service.
(5)Laine K.
Calamari was perfectly cooked. Just enough breading. They serve it with a cocktail sauce and I would have preferred marinara. Our server suggested a great red wine and our meals were straight-up awesome! Both of our entrees were so huge there were about 4 portions for a moderately hungry person. Eggplant parm was great and fettuccine siliciane was also fantastic! The pasta was cooked perfectly. The downsides: it's a really cramped, tiny dining area. We felt like we were at a big family dinner which was fun but not a romantic place. I also saw several of the kitchen staff go into the bathroom with their aprons on which is pretty gross to me but the food and wine were so good I can overlook it.
(4)Theresa S.
It's a hidden gem I must say! The people were extremely friendly and the food was delicious! I'm very picky with Italian food and this place hit the spot! My daughter, who barley eats her food, finished her spaghetti before I was even half done! We will definitely be going back!
(5)Nick E.
The atmosphere is great and the food is not bad.

Joe and Guiseppe's is our favorite Italian restaurant!!! We have been going there for years and its Excellent! We usually go with our family and they Love it. We usually start with the grilliata that's always a must, if you like calamari, octopus, shrimp, eggplant, and zucchini grilled you have to try it. For dinner we usually have the linguine with Clams, or Calamari. Also the Chicken Marsala, or the Chicken Parmesan. The owner Pasquale and his staff are Great! We do all are children's parties here, Pasquale is very accommodating. It's a Great Italian restaurant and even better right in the neighborhood!!

Decent food and good service. Not sure that top quality ingredients are used or that all dishes are prepared with equal attention and care, but the owners are very nice and it is a fun cozy restaurant. It is not not the best in the area, but it is a nice family owned business that is definitely worth a try. You may like it.

I went to eat there a few days ago and we had the bruschetta (amazing) the minestrone soup was awesome, Im going back today to get it. The entrees were good, but the best part was how nice the owner and our waitress were. I will definitely be back!

My wife and I ate there last Friday evening. I only live a mile from the restaurant and had never been there before. We had the best meals there, I had the Veal Piccata and my wife had the chicken Marsala. Both meals with desert was $40.00. We would not hesitate to go back again.

We were looking for a new Italian place in the burbs and came across this on Yelp, so we decided to try. It is in a small strip mall off of the main road, but pretty easy to find. Once you walk in, you see that there are only a few tables and the the crowd was definitely quiet and over the age of 40. We were told to seat ourselves. There were two waitresses working (it was a Thursday night), but you could not tell because the service was great. The meal starts with freshly baked (or in my guess, rewarmed) bread with oil on the table for dipping. The bread was great! We skipped appetizers this time because were in a little bit of a hurry. I had the Fettuccine Giuseppe, which is chicken strips (not fried) in fettuccine with a great white wine and what tasted like broth sauce. It was SO good. My wife had the lobster ravioli and not only cleared her plate, but was dipping bread into the sauce afterward because it was delicious! Also, they each came with soup or salad. She got the salad and I got their minestrone (which was also very good). There were several other dishes that we were deciding between, which means we are definitely have to go back. I do not know much about wines (yet) but they had a two-page wine menu attached to their regular menu. It was a nice touch when the chef came out to talk to us. That is always refreshing in any restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place and will be going back again. Our total bill for the two meals (soups and salad included) and a glass of wine was $43ish.

Authentic, homemade, delicious! Was surprised by this place since its in a strip mall. Go early because it fills up fast. Will definitely be going back soon!

Nice service but the food its not that great. I was thinking that a restaurant like this would be better than olive garden and its not its really not. The chef or owner went to all the tables to see how everything was except mine so I felt a little discriminated, but the worst thing was the food. Their marinara sauce tasted like caned tomato sauce. Wont be coming back:-)

So, I have a tendency to distrust any restaurant in a strip/mini mall. I don't know why, but I go in expecting the worst. I was very pleasantly surprised by Joe and Guiseppe. The menu is mostly basic Italian comfort food - pastas, as well as several meat and seafood dishes. Two of us had pasta with marinara and a side of Italian sausage, one had the lobster ravioli, and I had the eggplant parmesan. Entrees come with soup or salad, and we all opted for salad with creamy garlic dressing (note: they don't normally have the garlic dressing, but the waitresses will whip it up for you - and it's great!). All our entrees were generous portions, and very well done. We were far too full to order dessert, but they served up a complimentary plate of cookies. While the place was VERY busy starting at like 5:30 on a Saturday night, the service was great, and the staff never made you feel rushed. Should I find myself back in Arlington Heights, I would definitely make a return trip to Joe & Guiseppe's.

A couple of my coworkers recommended Joe & Giuseppe's. My boyfriend ( who is Sicilian) and I went around PM on Friday. It was very crowded but we were seated right away. We started out with the calamari ($14.95 which I thought was a little high). A couple of bites into the dish I thought it was very fishy tasting. My boyfriend agreed. We debated sending it back ( I always feel bad!) but the chef's wife (owner maybe?) came by and asked how our dish was. I told her that I thought it was fishy. She asked if we would like something else. We declined (my stomach was upset now). She took the dish away and came back to tell us she was taking the dish off our bill. She said her husband (the chef) had tried it and said it tasted fine. She than said "I just think it's you." I was in shock that she would say something like this to her customer. The rest of our meal came out. Both our dishes were good. Nothing exceptional but I am sure that the rudeness affected the rest of my meal. I was so embarrassed that I just wanted to leave.

A gem in Arlington Heights. We have been to the restaurant a number of times with family and friends. Simply put, the best homestyle southern Italian food in the area. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and helpful. The food is outstanding. I am so in love with the tilapia with mussels and the eggplant parmigiana, I have not tried the other dishes, but everyone we have ever taken to the restaurant raves about their meal. The line is out the door on Friday and Saturday nights, so book a reservation.

This is a happy, friendly place. Waitresses are kind and helpful with menu choices. At times, the chef comes out of the kitchen and mingles with diners. The dishes my family and I have tried there have been delicious. I can't remember the names of the dishes but they've included the veal plate, the lobster ravioli with vodka sauce, linguini with shrimp, tilapia, as well as some other pasta dishes. I loved the appetizer with the octopus and squid. The seafood has been fresh and has not let us down. If you save room for dessert, you should try the tiramisu. It's perfect!

Phenomenal Family owned authentic italian food. I have been coming to joe and giuseepe for probably 10 years now and love it. The hostess is the owner along with her husband how is the chef. They are extremely nice people who run a wonderful restaraunt. All meals are great. My wife lovest the lobster ravioli. The veal is outstanding along with the chicken dishes. Everything is fresh and made to order. Try the calamari as a appitizer hand battered and fresh just like it should be....If you have not been here go its worth it. IT is a small restaraunt sometimes crowded worth the wait.

We go out to eat an average of 6 nights per week and this was by far the worst service and food we've had in a long time. Several years ago we went here and it was just ok (again, had issues with the service) but we decided to give it another try. It took over an hour to get our food, things were done incorrectly, we had to hunt down the waitress (too many tables in her section) and when the food finally did come, it was mediocre at best. The only positive from the whole experience was the owner's wife. She came over an apologized and seemed very sincere. I am the first to write a good review, however I felt this deserved one star at most. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. Even a Fazoli's is more appetizing.

Absolutely excellent and authentic Italian. The waitress was very attentive and beyond nice. We loved that the Chef stopped by the table several times during our meal, too. We had the linguini with clams and lobster ravioli. We couldn't decide which was better so we just shared both. Both were delicious. The Tiramisu is the best I have ever had. I had the pistachio gelato that was excellent, but I kept dipping into the wife's tiramisu.

I used to go here a lit as a kid and remember liking everything. Went there last night for the first time in years and was not impressed. When we get there it was busy at 8 pm we did get seated right away but then the host thought it was more important to talk to a freind about a stiry then give us menus. So we were brought water and bread before the menus that came 10 mins after we git there. The waitress didn't show up until 5 mins after that. I had the garden salad with the "house" dressing which consisted of evoo and red wine vinegar. There was a pool of rwv at the bottom. Way over dressed. There was no other seasoning to the dressing at all no pepper or any other herbs. I got the chicken parm with mosticcoli. There was more breading then chicken it was so thin. Salernos is way better u can tell there is chicken. The pasta was fine but there were no ridges on it so the sauce doesn't stay on. My husband got the chicken vesuvio and i did like that but not a big portion of chicken for 15.95. Our bill was $46 with tip with 1 soda. Overall not a pleasant experience and i doubt i will go back.

I only have one word to describe the food here..ORGASMIC! My fav Italian restaurant hands down..Lobster Ravioli is simply breath taking and also LOVE the Italian Giambotta.

This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant that is tucked away in a small strip mall. Do make reservations especially on Friday or Saturday evenings. We went at 6 pm and they were already full with a 1 hour wait. Very few restaurants in the US serve octopus. Chef Pasquale's version is just as good as I have had in Rome. A bonus for me was escarole soup which was a comfort food from my childhood. The fish is perfect: moist and slightly underdone. Skip dessert for dinner as Italian cookies, fried dough dusted with powdered sugar, is included. Prices are very reasonable and this certainly is one of our stops when we have people from out of town.

I went here for the first time last Friday, despite having lived nearby for a while. It isn't much to look at from the outside, but once inside it has the feel of a cozy, charming, family-owned restaurant. The staff was lovely (the woman running the hostess stand was friendly and welcoming--she seemed like she might be an owner). The food was good: my husband had a delicious veal special, and later in the night he was actually lamenting that he hadn't brought home the sauce (all that was left on his plate!). My chicken special was ok--I wouldn't order it again but it wouldn't stop me from going back and trying something else. And the desserts were great; we really enjoyed the cookies they bring you at the end of the meal and the cannoli. It was really hopping when we got there at 6, with almost all the tables full the whole time we were there and many people coming in for carryout orders. I might consider making reservations the next time I go!

This is probably one of the best Italian places in the area however, the experience was just awkward. Everything we ordered was delicious but every time we looked up the owners/workers were staring at us. We wanted to go back for the food but my mom wasn't , 'in the mood' for that type of dining experience again. Their were also two boys that were part of the family that were arguing/fighting quite loudly for such a small place. If you're looking for some good Italian food in the suburb area I'd say this is the place, as long as you don't mind on lookers. I'll definitely venture back here one of these days.

I called Saturday afternoon to make reservation for 5 for that evening and when we got to the restaurant they had no record of our reservation. ?? This was the first sign that they don't know how to manage a restaurant. Once seated we waited almost 20 min for a waitress to even take a drink order. We asked the hostess/manager after 10 min but that didn't seem to help much. While our waitress was very nice, I'm not sure if she had too many tables, was distracted, or what the problem was. Clearly she wasn't being supervised. We waited nearly 30 min for our check when we were finished and had to ask multiple people at least 3 times for it. Meanwhile people are lining up outside waiting for tables. The hostess should have been on top of this situation - this was a case study in How Not to Run a Restaurant 101. It took from start to finish over 2 hours for a fairly simple meal. The food was ok, some big hits some misses, but after such poor service I'm not sure we would come back. Hire a new front manager and we might be back, until then we'll take a pass.

Our first time there and will definitely return! The food is wonderful, the staff friendly and helpful. We had and can recommend the Portobello mushroom appetizer, Lobster Ravioli, Risotto Tutto Mare. The minestrone soup is a new favorite and the Tiramisu is fabulous! We went on a Saturday at 4:30pm hoping to beat the evening crowd, which we did by just about 30 minutes, as by 5:00pm the dining room was quickly filling and a line was forming. They do take reservations so best to call ahead or go before busy time.
